Welcome to The Hitchin’ Post, the official blog of Irwin Quarter Horses! This journal is dedicated to sharing our thoughts, experiences and pathfinding as a first-generation Quarter Horse program, and we’re excited to take you along for the ride.
Why We Started The Hitchin’ Post
At Irwin Quarter Horses, our mission is to breed high-quality, versatile Quarter Horses that excel both in competition and as using horses. Our family’s ties to agriculture, rural living and horsemanship go back generations, but this venture is something we’ve begun from the ground level. Because of this, we’ve had our fair share of problems to solve and lessons to learn, and this journal is our way of documenting the journey. We don’t claim to be experts, but we do strive to be the best at what we do. As such, we’re what you could call “professionally unprofessional.” We don’t have a 50-year history in the business or a household name, but in everything we do, we seek excellence and brilliance in the basics. You don’t need to be the most famous or well-known to do things the right way.
We created The Hitchin’ Post to provide a resource for others who may be starting their own journeys in the horse industry. We’ll share the lessons we’ve learned, the mistakes we’ve made, and the insights we’ve gained along the way. Whether you’re just beginning or a seasoned vet, we hope you’ll find inspiration and answers here.
This blog is also an outlet for us to explore and share the aspects of the industry that intrigue us most. The paths of life that we’ve chosen don’t allow for all of us to be present and full-time in this venture; however, these posts and the thoughts and research behind them are a way to stay connected, continue learning, and keep building the foundation for our program to grow and succeed. From bloodlines and breeding practices to stories and anecdotes, we aim to write about and share the things that make us tick when it comes to these horses and the life they provide us.
